Home / CPD Modules / Fashion Design / Sewing Basics (ii)
Contrary to popular belief, highly developed sewing skills are of critical importance as a fashion designer. Someday, you may find yourself in a position where your sewing duties are handled by others. In the meantime, it’s up to you to bring your creative visions to life for others to see. Visualising and sketching out remarkable designs just isn’t enough. If you don’t have the skills and the confidence to produce at least rudimentary prototypes of your designs, it is unlikely you will be taken seriously. By contrast, the more advanced and developed your sewing skills become, the higher the likelihood you will be recognised as a professional.
This second-stage tutorial furthers the previous module, with an overview of some of the most important basics of sewing for beginners. Study the basics of tailoring for beginners, simple stitching for beginners (seams and seam finishes), advanced hand sewing techniques, tucks, pleats, gathers, smocking, ruffles, frills, buttons and more. Learn how to take your existing sewing skills to the next level and put them to use in the fashion design process.
