Certificate in Accounting and Finance QLS Level 3

The certificate in Accounting and Finance consists of six units. They are:

Unit 1: An Overview of Accounting

The first unit of the course introduces candidates to the world of accounting and finance. The unit discusses the concept of modern accounting and the role it play in organisations and the society at large. The benefits of accounting, as well as its limitations, are also explained.

Unit 2: What does an Accountant do?

It’s the 21st century and accountants are more deeply involved in the decision-making process of organisations. Unit 2 delves deeply into the different categories of accountants that have recently evolved and their roles. The unit further explains the importance of each of these roles.

Unit 3: How to Create a Balance Sheet

The third unit of the accounting and finance course proceeds to dissect the concept of the balance sheet and how to create one. Every vital detail candidates need to know to accurately create and analyse a balance sheet is explained in great detail.

Unit 4: How to Prepare Profit and Loss Account

Recording the expenses, costs and revenue of any organisation, the profit and loss account is a must-know for an accountant. The fourth unit lifts the veil on the concept of profit and loss account, covering a number of details not limited to the components of the P&L account and maintaining accuracy while creating a P&L account

Unit 5: Cash Flow Statements

In unit 5, the course content moves on to shed light on another financial statement – the cash flow statement. Under this topic, candidates understand the concepts and components of the cash flow statement, working capital requirement and fund sourcing.  The differences and similarities between the cash flow statement, Profit and Loss account and the balance is also explained.

Unit 6: Budgeting - Practical Money Skills

The course concludes by elucidating the concept of budgeting and specifically, practical money skills. Candidates are exposed to the definitions of budgeting and its various types. In addition, the course explains the processes of budgeting as well as its essence in financial management. 

On completing the course, candidates will be able to apply their skills, techniques and knowledge to any financial situation and may find work as accountants, financial advisors and financial consultants. Candidates can also choose to set up an accountancy firm. The average annual salary for those in this field is around £40,000.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Quality Licence Scheme and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
