The level 5 Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design has eleven modules;
Unit 1: An Overview of Fashion Design
This is an initiatory unit to Fashion design. It talks about the essential primary principles to follow when designing and the roles and functions of fashion designers in the industry.
Unit 2: Elements of Art and Design
Unit 2 defines art and design, enumerates the different elements of art and design, the roles these elements play in fashion design and how they can be applied when making designs.
Unit 3: Key Design Principles
This unit focuses on the basic and most important principles of design to follow, the importance of these principles, how these principles help in designing and how they are linked to elements of design.
Unit 4: Basic Elements of Dress Designing
The fourth unit points out the fundamental elements and principles of dress designing and simplifies each one of them for better understanding and application. It also explains the functions of following these elements
Unit 5: Dress Designing & Color Selection
This unit helps to pick between the different selections of dresses or styles to design and the different color combinations to add to the designs. It guides candidates through the trends to follow in design and color to improve the appeal of their designs.
Unit 6: Designing Process
Unit 6 gives the adequate knowledge needed in designing, it points out the several factors to consider when designing. It helps in making decisions such as; the type of fabric to use, who to design for, the type of clothes to design and a lot more.
Unit 7: Fashion Sketching: Drawing the Fashion Figure
This unit focuses more on sketching and teaches candidates how to put their designs on paper and to easily adjust the designs. It emphasizes the need to pay attention to the currently trending designs and how this helps to improve productivity.
Unit 8: How to Work With Patterns
The eight unit walks candidates slowly through the basic knowledge of working with patterns, the principles of pattern application and dressmaking. It helps in understanding and choosing patterns when designing.
Unit 9: Sewing Basics (I)
This unit gives basic sewing tips and sewing stitches for beginners to commence sewing lessons, the basic terminologies used in sewing and the breakdown of the sewing process.
Unit 10: Sewing Basics (Ii)
Unit 10 goes further into sewing. It explains other types of stitches and cutting. It also teaches how to properly use a sewing machine and discusses the different parts of the machine and their functions.
Unit 11: Starting a Successful Fashion Design Business
The final unit educates candidates on the various points to consider when starting a Fashion Design Business. It explains how to instill the skills learned into starting a business.
